Gates County Rodeo

If it hadn’t been for running into Aaron Brown on the Cavalier Calf chasing excursion, I may not have done this blog post, but since I did, I am.
Aaron used to shoe my horses. In fact, if I needed them shod he’d be the man for the job now but all we’re doing is trimming and so, it’s Mark who has taken on the task.
Anyway, Aaron puts on the Gates County Rodeo every Mother’s Day weekend. Usually at least one show gets rained out but the one that doesn’t is worth the admission. Not much happens down this way and it nice to have something great so close by.
There’s plenty of easy parking, the tickets aren’t exasperatingly expensive, you can go back to your car if you’re too broke to buy a Coke and the show is awesome. It’s one of the first stops on the SRA (Southern Rodeo Association) schedule. Competitive cowboys and cowgirls come from all over to compete at this rodeo. There are all the standard events: rough stock riding, barrel racing, team and calf roping…etc. along with some fun events for the kids and family-friendly rodeo acts.
Come on down! We’ll be there…if it doesn’t rain.
