We attended a homeschool field trip to see The Alvin Ailey dance theater. We met 2 other families there, one of whom organized (thanks!) the event. There were 3 little girls eight or under and 3 older kids–teens or almost teens. Every one of our group was enthralled throughout the show.
The dancers were fantastic–obviously classically trained, precise and lovely, with a good taste of modern dance exuberance and ethnic rhythm which added excitement and drama. I love the way this dance group has taken their love for dance and melded it with the history of the African-American race. The culture is honored in many ways, from yams to catawba, from tribal rhythms to Southern spirituals, and all delivered with a huge dose of class.
I highly recommend this show for anyone who enjoys the performing arts.
