Hertford, North Carolina

On July 4th, we went to visit some friends who have a vacation home on the Perquimmons River in Hertford, NC. It’s about a 45 minute drive. We took the boat and put it in just 2 houses down from them at a boat ramp, cooked London Broil on the grill (thanks again, Porterhouse), had a beer and realized that it was time to get in the boats.
The little bay at Hertford was a short ride from their dock and we idled in, anchored and tied the boats together not a moment too soon. The fireworks display began just as we got settled. Martina was absolutely rapt. There were 5 other boats in the bay. The show was exceptional and not only that, there were 2 or 3 others that we could see from a distance and a great deal of heat lightning from the north.
The boat ran great–whether out of fear of more cussing or not, I’m not sure.
We are not big fans of large crowds, so the evening was perfect for us. Even Travis had a great time and talked more than he has in ages. I fully recommend Hertford if quiet, peaceful and lovely are keywords in your destination vocabulary.
