Montebello Camping and Fishing Resort

We stumbled upon a wonderful campground in Montebello, VA, the Montebello Camping and Fishing Resort. We spent four nights camping in this clean, well-maintained campground while visiting the area around Staunton, VA. The campsites are roomy, the bathrooms are clean, there are shade trees and sunny patches, a lovely little lake with a swimming area and fishing platforms, a playground and a nice, safe atmosphere. While the term ‘resort’ may be pushing it a little, the campground was well run, the staff at the store were helpful and friendly and the overall feel was very family-friendly. Also, though many of the other campers had dogs with them ALL of the dogs were kept restrained and we did not have one problem all weekend either with annoying canine visitors or with being kept up at night listening to someone’s dog.
My husband spent a lot of time fishing with our 6 year old daughter and managed to catch several nice sized bass. Travis, who is 16, spent his time kayaking in the lake which is small but good enough for a kid who loves paddling. He also fished from his boat and took his little sister paddling.
There are plenty of things to do near Montebello if you enjoy outdoor activities: fly and bass fishing, biking, and hiking. See my other posts for info on Crabtree Falls and the Museum of American Frontier Culture.
