We started homeschool last week. This week we had a 9am riding lesson on Monday, a 10am riding lesson on Wednesday, CSA pick up, a piano lesson and an overnight birthday party.
On Monday I was still thinking we would make a way to ‘do school’ but by Monday evening I had given myself permission not to and our week immediately improved. That said, I do consider riding and piano a part of our school and the pursuit of these abilities is important to us. Trying to get class rolling in the half hour between getting home from the barn and lunch or in the afternoon when we’re groggy and normally play the recorder and weave seemed silly. We will get back at it next week and that’s that.
Making this sort of decision is difficult but it was the right thing to do. Organization is extremely important to both my daughter and I and we do not do well when we make efforts to come to the school table distracted, unprepared, unfocused or stressed. Better that we take the week and preserve eggplant, go for an evening bike ride at the botanical gardens and spend time talking and reading. Which is exactly what we did.
